About the Role

C&R Consulting (C&R) are looking for an experienced Senior Hydrogeologist to join our Townsville-based team in a full-time, permanent position, reporting to the Principal Hydrogeologist. C&R maintain a safe working environment while undertaking hydrogeological field programs that are fundamental to the management of groundwater systems related to our clients’ operations.


You will be responsible for overseeing the collation, assessment and reporting of groundwater data to ensure internal and client regulatory obligations are met. Accordingly, the role requires a highly motivated individual to work as part of a field- and office-based team of dedicated hydrogeologists and technical officers.

Responsibilities

  • Working collaboratively with the principal and other senior hydrogeologists as well as clients to execute the designated program of works.
  • Collection, collation and interpretation of hydrogeological and hydrogeochemical data; writing of field program completion reports and conducting aquifer testing and analyses.
  • Provision of timely and accurate advice on project schedules.
  • Formulation of complex briefs, and reports related to groundwater compliance, management and use.
  • Practical observations and recommendations to ensure effective management of groundwater systems.
  • Promoting positive behaviour and a supportive safety/team culture.
  • Supervise technical aspects of drilling groundwater monitoring bores, aquifer tests and groundwater investigations – including contamination, supply, dewatering and depressurisation and statutory groundwater monitoring.
  • Uphold adherence to scientific methods during the collection of water quality samples in accordance with relevant Australian standards and regulatory guidelines.
  • Maintenance and care of field equipment to enable the safe and efficient collection of data and samples.
  • Requirements

  • Hold a tertiary qualification (at a minimum) in hydrogeology, science, geology, environmental science or similar.
  • Have a minimum 7 years of experience undertaking groundwater monitoring, utilising different methods or hydrogeological assessments (preferably in Queensland).
  • Thorough understanding of groundwater and surface water monitoring systems and equipment, data management and analysis packages/systems.
  • Possess a high level of analytical and problem solving, communication and time management skills.
  • Have a detailed understanding of environmental legislation/approvals processes (preferably Queensland and federal legislation).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex issues concisely.
  • Have a high level of computer literacy in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook (at a minimum). Experience using various GIS, statistical analysis and/or modelling software are optional but highly desirable.
  • Hold a Queensland manual driver’s licence (and experience driving long distances and/or off-road/4WD).
  • Ability to meet the requirements of a Generic Coal Board Medical (Coal Mining Safety & Health Regulation CMSHR 1).
  • Australia citizenship or rights to work in Australia.
